Who we are
Hýsa Sp/f, Heygsvegur 33, 100 Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: hysa@hysa.fo.
What we collect
- Guests: name, contact details, booking details, payment status and messages. Card details are entered on the payment page from Frisbii and kept by Frisbii; Hýsa never sees the full card number.
- Homeowners: name, contact details, property address and payout details.
- Forms: what you write to us, attached photos and files.
- Applicants: application, CV and contact details.
Why
To handle bookings and payments, look after homes, answer requests, meet accounting rules and send offers as described under Marketing communication below.
Who we share it with
Only suppliers who help us run the service: our booking system (Guesty), payment provider (Frisbii), accounting system (e-conomic), hosting and AI for the chat (Cloudflare; Anthropic when we choose Claude for the chat), email (Titan), email marketing (Klaviyo, see below), our sister companies Klárt (cleaning) and Hýsa Referrals (partner perks), and the booking platform you booked through. We never see card numbers.
Marketing communication
When you book directly with Hýsa, we use your e-mail address to send you information about similar stays and offers from Hýsa. You can opt out at any time, free of charge, by ticking “No thanks” when you book, by replying “unsubscribe” or by clicking the unsubscribe link in any e-mail. If you do not want to receive these e-mails, you can also let us know before or after your stay at hysa@hysa.fo.
How we use your data
We use your name, e-mail address and booking details (property, dates) to manage your booking and, unless you opt out, to send you relevant offers from Hýsa. We use Klaviyo to send e-mails. Your data is never sold or shared with other companies for their marketing. Bookings made through Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia or Vrbo are not used for marketing.
Newsletter sign-up
If you sign up for our newsletter on the website or when you buy a gift card, you will only receive it after you have confirmed by clicking the link in the e-mail we send you. The box is never ticked in advance. Sign-ups that are not confirmed are deleted after 7 days. We store your e-mail, language, where you signed up, the text you agreed to and when.
Chat
The chat assistant answers from public information about our homes and the Faroe Islands. It cannot see bookings or payments. If you choose “Talk to a person”, we store your name, email, phone, question and the chat so far to answer you, and delete it after two years.
How long
Booking and accounting data: 5 years (accounting law). Form submissions and applications: deleted within 12 months.
Cookies and statistics
The website remembers your language, theme and saved homes in your browser. We count visits anonymously, without cookies and without storing IP addresses or names: a random number that lives only in your browser tab, the page, where the visit came from, phone or computer, and the country of the network. These counts are deleted after 13 months.
Google (Analytics and Ads) and Meta (Facebook and Instagram) cookies are only used if you press “Accept” in the cookie banner, to see which of our ads work. You can change your choice at any time under “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
Google user data
Hýsa’s internal marketing tool connects to Google Ads only for our own advertising accounts. It reads campaign and performance data and prepares suggestions that a person must approve. We do not use Google user data for any other purpose, do not sell it or share it with third parties, and do not use it to train AI models. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can ask us to delete such data at hysa@hysa.fo.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, or object to its use, by writing to hysa@hysa.fo. You can also complain to the Faroese Data Protection Authority (Dátueftirlitið).
